Front-End Team Lead
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Front-End Team Lead to lead our front-end engineering team based in Timisoara. This is a hands-on leadership role, with around 60% hands-on development and 40% people leadership and delivery, leading a team of five engineers and helping shape the team’s future as we grow permanent capability.
Our front-end platform is undergoing a meaningful modernisation moving to Vue 3, TypeScript, and Quasar. The migration is well underway, giving you the opportunity to help land it successfully, influence standards and best practices and work with a modern, evolving front-end stack.
This role actively encourages modern ways of working including the daily use of AI tools to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery. You will help embed effective AI usage across the team while working closely with QA, Product and Marketing to deliver high-quality, user-focused front-end experiences in a flexible hybrid working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Be a hands-on technical lead, contributing to development while guiding front-end architecture, patterns, and best practices.
- Ensure front-end applications are performant, accessible, maintainable, and built to a high standard using Vue 3, TypeScript, and Quasar.
- Collaborate closely with back-end engineering, QA, Product, and Online Marketing teams to deliver user-focused solutions.
- Promote strong engineering quality through automated testing and close collaboration with QA.
People Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of front-end engineers, supporting their technical development and day-to-day effectiveness.
- Build a strong, collaborative team culture while helping transition knowledge and ownership from contractors to permanent team members.
- Support delivery through clear prioritisation, guidance and pragmatic decision-making.
AI & Ways of Working
- Embed effective day-to-day use of AI tools across the team to improve productivity, code quality and consistency.
- Take ownership of front-end delivery within an evolving agile environment, contributing to continuous improvement of processes.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders, translating business requirements into practical technical solutions and reliable delivery plans.
Location
The role is hybrid, with a minimum expectation of one in-office team day per month in Timisoara. Additional ad-hoc office days may be required for planning sessions or visits from colleagues. Occasional travel to Belfast (typically once or twice per year) may be required. Candidates should be based in Romania, ideally within reasonable travelling distance of the Timisoara office (approximately 90 minutes). Essential Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a closely related discipline with strong academic results
- Proven experience as a Front-End Team Lead or senior front-end engineer with leadership responsibilities.•
- Strong, hands-on experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, particularly Vue.js.
- Commercial experience with Vue 3 and TypeScript.
- Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end development practices.
- Experience consuming APIs and working closely with back-end services.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
Desirable Experience
- Experience using Quasar.
- Experience with Cypress.io or similar browser-based testing frameworks.
- Experience helping teams transition from legacy front-end stacks to modern frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and front-end build tooling.
